welcome to the inner workings of my mind.

So everyone and their mum was doing a 'top ten characters' list when I originally posted this. It was all kinds of intriguing and excellent and I really hope my entire flist manages to do one, if possible. This is mine, and as you can see, it blatantly, shamefacedly, completely and utterly ripped off
stainofmylove's masterpiece. (I JUST LOVE HER PRETTY HER POSTS ARE, OKAY?!) Also I had just ~survived a few days of spotty internet, so photoshop, along with terrible adaptations of excellent books -- I am looking at you, The Golden Compass -- was pretty much all I had! It's not even a compass, sheesh, it's an alethiometer.
I honestly surprised myself with the contents of my own list, the contents of which I feel say largely negative things about me (oops). But that Professor X is here instead of Magneto, and Brutus instead of Anthony or Caesar… that's… well, it's weird for me. Having said that, I would like to stress that I have broken from what seems to be the convention in other people's lists, which is to include your top ten favourite characters ever. My list was very much drawn up in the moment and is the sort of thing that will have changed completely very soon, probably within the next few days or weeks. I also decided only to include one character per fandom per list, for diversity's sake, otherwise I think this list would look very different, especially at different times of the year ahaha.
12_12_12 asked me to reupload this, which was nice of her, so here it is!
10. MAL REYNOLDS (Firefly)
"Remember, if anything happens to me, or you don't hear from me within the hour, you take this ship and you come and you rescue me."
("What? And risk my ship?")
"I mean it. It's cold out there. I don't wanna get left."

09. TOMMY CARCETTI (The Wire)
"It's Baltimore... No one lives forever."

08. ALBUS DUMBLEDORE (Harry Potter)
"Power was my weakness and my temptation."

07. JAY GATSBY (The Great Gatsby)
"'If it wasn't for the mist we could see your home across the bay,' said Gatsby. 'You always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock.'"

06. MARCUS JUNIUS BRUTUS (Rome)
"I betrayed nothing. Had you told me you were to march on Rome and asked me for my allegiance, I would have given it. I would've judged you insane, but I would've given you my allegiance because I look on you as my father."
("Brutus-")
"You did not ask me for my allegiance. You demanded it at sword point. I betrayed nothing."

05. HECTOR MADDEN (The Hour)
("Hector, hero of Troy.")
"My father always said a hero is a man who's too afraid to run away."

04. RODRIGO BORGIA (The Borgias)
"Oh what would Rome be without a good plot?"

03. LORD ASRIEL (His Dark Materials)
"Human beings can’t see anything without wanting to destroy it, Lyra. That’s original sin. And I’m going to destroy it. Death is going to die."

02. CHARLES XAVIER (X-Men)
"A new species is being born. Help me guide it, shape it, lead it."

01. TYWIN LANNISTER (A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones)
"When your enemies defy you, you must serve them steel and fire. When they go to their knees, however, you must help them back to their feet."

10. EMMA SWAN (Once Upon a Time)
"No. I have never been in love."

09. JENNY MELLOR (An Education)
"'Action is character', our English teacher says. I think it means that if we never did anything, we wouldn't be anybody. And I never did anything before I met you."

08. JESSICA PEARSON (Suits)
"I know what I did. I'm not sorry I did it. And I'd do it again."

07. KATHERINE PIERCE (The Vampire Diaries)
"Living out of a suitcase is better than dying so you can have you blood spilled over a silly little rock."

06. ANNE BOLEYN (The Tudors)
"You know, I sometimes wish that all Spaniards were at the bottom of the sea."

05. HERMIONE GRANGER (Harry Potter)
"Assuming I survive our hunt for the Horcruxes, I’ll find Mum and Dad and lift the enchantment. If I don’t – well, I think I’ve cast a good enough charm to keep them safe and happy. Wendell and Monica Wilkins don’t know that they’ve got a daughter, you see."

04. LYRA BELACQUA (His Dark Materials)
"And Pantalaimon didn’t ask why, because he knew; and he didn’t ask whether Lyra loved Roger more than him, because he knew the true answer to that, too. And he knew that if he spoke, she wouldn’t be able to resist; so the daemon held himself quiet so as not to distress the human who was abandoning him, and now they were both pretending that it wouldn’t hurt, it wouldn’t be long before they were together again, it was all for the best. But Will knew that the little girl was tearing her heart out of her breast."

03. KATNISS EVERDEEN (The Hunger Games)
"If he wants me broken, then I will have to be whole."

02. BEL ROWLEY (The Hour)
"Why do we have to be married? Or not married? Why can't we do what the Hell we like? Men can sleep with women without getting a name for themselves, they can have careers-"
("Darling, you, you have a career.")
"I do."

01. ARYA STARK (A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones)
"Swift as a deer. Quiet as shadow. Fear cuts deeper than swords. Quick as a snake. Calm as still water. Fear cuts deeper than swords."

Except, apparently not! xD
